Have a look at the latest article posted on Rorate Cœli. "Vatican II is not a dogma of the Faith". Therefore, the Society might soon be offered a reconciliation without needing to affirm acceptance of any of it. Thereafter, clarifications could follow one-by-one. If this is true, the Pope is now bending over backwards to accommodate the S.S.P.X. This would be a far easier entry than the one in the constitutions of the I.B.P.

Why would Benedict XVI go so far? Well, he's an intellectual and will support whatever strict logic allows. Moreover, he looks around him and sees the devastation wrought by the reforms. He would appreciate help from the S.S.P.X in re-building. All options are on the table.
