Wow... what can women expect!? Is it the case now that every pronouncement from the Vatican requires subsections for every subgroup? It's not as if most avid fans of NCReporter bother to follow missives from the Vatican anyways.

"We fear that re-embracing the Latin Mass could undermine the liturgical reforms that undergird the spiritual and theological developments of the Second Vatican Council. Changes that will set off our alarms include:... Restricting church design and architecture in favor of old forms not conducive to the guidelines in liturgical documents written in the last 20 years."

Oh yes, what will we do without all those bland walls and felt banners?

"Discouraging efforts to use contemporary music and other artistic expressions in liturgy."

There was a time when the greatest musicians alive wrote religious and specifically liturgical music as a regular artistic practice. When was the last time the great musicians of today, in any genre, have written powerful, accomplished religious music? What "other artistic expressions" are we talking about? Methinks this is a veiled reference to girthy chicks in spandex, aiding the congregation in their worship by dancing up and down the aisles wielding some of the aforementioned felt and maybe some shiny ribbon.

"Increasing restrictions on liturgical ministries open to all laypeople, men and women."

Don't worry; you can still have your parking ministers and communion line fascist overlords making sure I don't run over the person in front of me.

"Rembert Weakland, then archbishop of Milwaukee, wrote what must now be seen as a prophetic article in America magazine in 1999 that warned of a creeping rubricism and movement to reinterpret Vatican II to assure validity and orthodoxy."

Wow... WOW... WOOOOOWW! This is jaw-droppingly embarassing. How I hate those "creeping" attempts to "assure validity and orthodoxy". And from the mouth, no less, of the honored Bishop Weakland, who paid 450,000 bucks to silence a male lover from his clerical past. Who writes this stuff?
